Esther Scroll in Decorated Silver Case – North Africa or Near East - Esther scroll housed in decorated silver case. [North Africa or Near East, 19th century]. Ink on parchment; silver, cast, repoussé, and engraved (unmarked). Esther scroll written on 2 sheets of parchment sewn together, 16 columns of text, 20 lines per column. Scroll housed in hexagonal silver case decorated in vegetal patterns, with tall, straight scroll handle at bottom, and elegant, flower-shaped ornament on top. In its design and ornamentation, this case bears characteristics of objects of Judaica originating from North African and Islamic countries. Height of parchment sheets: approx. 7.5 cm. Good condition. Spots of faded ink. Height of full case: 27 cm. Width: 4.5 cm. Good condition.
