Esther Scroll in Miniature Silver Case Adorned with Coral – Iraq or the Region, 19th Century - Esther scroll in decorated silver case. [Iraq or surrounding region], Ottoman Empire, [19th century]. Ink on parchment; silver, cast, sawed, pierced and engraved (unmarked); coral. Esther scroll written in Sephardic Stam script on 7 light, thin parchment membranes sewn together, 28 text columns, 14-15 lines per column, with Tagim (except on first membrane). Housed in octagonal silver case, decorated with vegetal patterns, with top part designed as a tall dome, with a coral bead and a stylized flower decoration at edge. Angled, ornamented handle. Height of parchment: 5.5 cm. Overall good condition. First membrane non-original and thicker than other membranes. Creases and minor tears to margins. Light tears and unraveling to seams. Height of case: 10.5 cm (including handle: 16 cm). Good condition. Old soldering repairs (to joint connecting top part to case). Pull bar may have been replaced. Bottom part of handle may have been replaced.
