Esther Scroll in Silver Case Adorned with Bird – Iraq or the Region, 19th Century - Esther scroll in decorated silver case. [Iraq or surrounding region], Ottoman Empire, [19th century]. Ink on parchment; silver, cast, sawed, pierced and engraved (unmarked). Esther scroll in Sephardic Stam script on 9 parchment membranes sewn together, 27 text columns, 15 lines per column, with serifs (Tagim). Housed in octagonal silver case, decorated with vegetal patterns, the upper part designed as a pointed dome, with a cast decoration of a bird on top. Angled, ornamented handle. Height of parchment: 7.7 cm. Overall good condition. First two membranes replaced. Some stains, minor tears. Height of case: 13 cm (including handle: 21.5 cm). Good condition. Warping and minor defects.
