Tikun Sofrim – Five Books of the Torah with Haftarot – Amsterdam, 1751 – Fine Set with Original Leather Bindings – Copy of Asher Goldsmid of London, Father of Sir Isaac Goldsmid (First Jewish Baronet of England) - Set of Five Books of the Torah – Tikun Sofrim, with haftarot. Amsterdam: Yosef and Yaakov sons of Shlomo Proops Katz, 1751. Fine set in five volumes. Elaborate original leather bindings, with gilt decorations. Title page in first volume only. Divisional title page for haftarot in first volume only. Gilt inscriptions at front of five volumes (on red leather mounted on binding), in Latin characters: ”Asher Goldsmid”. Handwritten inscriptions in Hebrew characters on endpapers of all volumes (inscription in Devarim volume deleted with ink) on receipt of book ”from my brother-in-law, the official R. Avraham Keyser, 1763”. The Keyser and Goldsmid families were a mainstay of the early Ashkenazic community in Amsterdam, some of whom immigrated to London from ca. the 18th century. Asher Goldsmid (1751-1822) married Rachel née Keyser. Their son was Sir Isaac Lyon Goldsmid (1778-1859), the first English Jew to be awarded the hereditary title of baronet.
