Marbeh Lesaper Passover Haggadah – Karlsruhe, 1791 – First Edition - Passover Haggadah, with the Marbeh Lesaper commentary, by R. Yedidiah Tiah Weil, Rabbi of Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe: Filta son of Moshe Epstein Segal and his brother-in-law Hirsch son of Moshe Wirmeis, 1791. First edition. The book was printed anonymously, and R. Yedidiah Tiah Weil even wrote an approbation (implying that he was not the author). However, it is known that he authored this work, as R. Elazar Fleckeles writes in his book (Responsa Teshuvah MeAhavah, Orach Chaim section 239). The author's name is alluded to in the preface. Furthermore, the author's autograph is held in the NLI's manuscript collection (Heb. 8°2744). R. Yedidiah Tiah Weil (1722-1806), leading Torah scholar of his times, son of R. Netanel Weil author of Korban Netanel, and close disciple of R. Yehonatan Eibeshitz. He corresponded with the Noda BiYehudah and the Haflaah. From 1770 he served as Rabbi of Karlsruhe and Baden, succeeding his father R. Netanel Weil, author of Korban Netanel. Only his Marbeh Lesaper commentary on the Haggadah was printed in his lifetime, but dozens of other works are being printed from manuscript in recent years. 52 leaves. 21.5 cm. Fair condition. Many stains, including dark dampstains to several leaves. Small marginal tears to several leaves. Old binding, with wear and defects. Otzar HaHaggadot 355.
