Imrei Shefer – Venice, 1601 – First Edition – Early Leather Binding - Imrei Shefer, sermons by R. Naftali Ashkenazi of Safed. Venice: Daniel Zanetti, 1601. First edition, printed in the author's lifetime. The author, a Torah scholar and kabbalist of Safed, Eretz Israel, an intimate disciple of the Arizal, mentioned in Sefer HaChezyonot by R. Chaim Vital, left Safed for Venice in 1601, where he printed his book and joined the local yeshiva until his passing. The book includes sermons he delivered on various occasions and eulogies for leading Torah scholars of his generation, including R. Eliezer Azikri, author of Sefer Charedim. This book contains teachings quoted from the Arizal. Title page partially repaired, at an early date, with a piece of the title page of another copy (the same was done to the following leaf). Ownership inscriptions on combined leaf, one dated 1775. Early leather binding, with gilt decorations. 220 leaves. Approx. 20 cm. Varying condition of leaves, fair to good-fair. Large tears to title page and second leaf, repaired with missing pieces of title page of another copy (a small part remains lacking, repaired with another piece of paper). Original leather binding.
