Talmud Yerushalmi – Zhitomir, 1860-1867 – Four Parts – Handwritten Glosses of Rabbi David Tevele Efrati of Vitebsk, Author of Toldot Anshei Shem - Talmud Yerushalmi, Seder Zeraim, Moed and Nashim. Zhitomir: R. Chanina Lipa and R. Yehoshua Heshel Shapira, [1860]-1867. Four of five parts (without Part V, with Seder Nezikin and Tractate Niddah). Talmud Yerushalmi, Seder Zeraim, Moed and Nashim, with commentaries Pnei Moshe, Mareh HaPanim, Korban HaEdah and Sheyarei Korban. The present edition is the first printing of the Pnei Moshe and Mareh HaPanim commentaries on Seder Zeraim and Moed. On title page of Seder Zeraim: Stamps of R. Daniel Feinberg, Rabbi of Vitebsk, and R. ”David Tevele Ish Efrati of Haradok…”. On margins of this volume, tens of lengthy glosses handwritten and signed by R. David Tevele Efrati (some slightly trimmed). Some refer to his other books, including Migdol David [unpublished, but mentioned in his other books], and others. R. David Tevele Efrati of Vitebsk (1849-1884), lived in Haradok-Vitebsk, and corresponded on halachic and aggadic topics with all leading Torah scholars of his generation – Lithuania, Galicia, Germany and other countries. He authored a diverse range of books and articles: halachic responsa, Talmudic and aggadic novellae, homiletics and kabbalah, and rabbinic bibliography and biography, including Toldot Anshei Shem. He passed away at the young age of 34, leaving behind an immense literary production, much of which has not been printed. Several more handwritten glosses, apparently by another writer. Some copies include a general title page in this volume (the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book also records a copy without that leaf). Volume III (Seder Nashim): [2], 79; 45; 64; 34; 56; 51; 41 leaves. 37 cm. Dark paper in several places. Overall good-fair condition, several leaves in fair condition (first leaves in two volumes). Stains. Marginal tears and open tears to several leaves (including some title pages), affecting title frames and text. Worming, affecting text. New uniform bindings, with fabric spines and corners. Wear and defects to bindings.
