Emet VeShalom Shiftu BeShaareichem – 1871 – Two Printed Posters – Letters of Rabbis of Tiberias and Safed – Split of Kollel Chabad from the Kollels of the Four Holy Cities - Two printed posters – letters of rabbis and officials of Tiberias and Safed. Polemical poster against the administration of Kollel Chabad in Hebron, which sent its own separate emissary to collect funds in Russia, in contravention of an 1868 agreement of the kollels to collect funds jointly in Siberia and inner Russia and dispense them to each kollel proportionately to its members. • Modaah – Emet VeShalom Shiftu BeShaareichem – printed letter of the leading rabbis of the Ashkenazic community and heads of kollels in Tiberias – polemic against Kollel Chabad in Hebron and the emissary they sent to collect funds in Russia. With official stamps of the Volhynia and Belarus kollels (with illustration of the Tomb of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes) and stamps of the Tiberias Beit Din, with signatures (printed) of seven community leaders and kollel officials in Tiberias. 1871. Signatures (printed): R. Avraham Yosef HaLevi [R. Alter Avraham Yosef HaLevi Horowitz, rabbi in the Ashkenazic community of Tiberias, 1824-1887]; R. Mordechai Mottel Ashkenazi (1824-1887); R. Avraham Tzvi Matz [R. Avraham Tzvi HaLevi (1826-1894), Rabbi in Neamț before immigrating to Eretz Israel, served as rabbi in Tiberias, immigrating to Tiberias after the earthquake, where he established a yeshiva]; R. Menachem Mendel son of R. Mordechai [Epstein – R. Mendel Reisisher; d. 1879]; R. Shmuel Shemaiah HaKohen Katz (d. 1905); R. Mordechai of Vileyka (d. 1875). According to the letter, some people from Chabad falsely claimed they were not given a portion of the funds, and sent their own emissary, Yonah of Hebron [probably R. Yonah Ze'ev Wolf Mendelssohn (1826-1887), a grandson of the Maharil of Yanovitch, brother of the Baal HaTanya, traveled as emissary for the Sephardic and Ashkenazic kollels of Hebron to the United States (Chavatzelet, 11th Cheshvan 1879)]. The letter asks to donate to the emissary sent by the united kollels to provide urgent assistance. • Modaah – MeHararei Kodesh Galil Elyon HaChavivah – printed letter of the leading rabbis of the Ashkenazic community and heads of kollels in Safed – polemic against Kollel Chabad in Hebron and the emissary they sent to collect funds in Russia. With official stamps of the Volhynia and Belarus kollels (with illustration of the Tomb of R. Shimon bar Yochai in Meron) and stamps of the Safed Beit Din, with signatures (printed) of ten community leaders and kollel officials in Safed. [Jerusalem, ca. 1871]. Signatures (printed): R. Varying size and condition. Stains and wear, worming and open tears, barely affecting text. Especially rare. To the best of our knowledge and research, these two posters are not bibliographically documented. Not recorded in Sh.
