Collection of Letters from Around the World – Addressed to the Vaad HaKlali in Jerusalem – Ca. 1920s-1950s - Huge collection of some two hundred letters and documents, from rabbis and emissaries, tzedakah collectors and philanthropists from around the world: the United States and Canada, Europe, England, South Africa and other countries. [Ca. 1920s-1950s]. Most of the letters in the present collection are addressed to the Vaad HaKlali in Jerusalem, and rabbis and treasurers who headed the Vaad HaKlali and other institutions in the city, including Gemach Otzar HaChesed – Keren Shmuel (established 1910 by R. Chaim Berlin and the Vaad HaKlali in memory of R. Shmuel Salant). The present collection includes many letters of rabbis from the United States (some with multiple letters): R. Yitzchak Simchah HaLevi Horowitz, Hartford; R. Gershon HaKohen Katzman, San Francisco; R. Meir Tzvi Hirsch, San Francisco; R. Chaim Morim Yudelovitch – Rabbi of Haverhill, Massachusetts; R. Yissachar HaLevi, Rabbi of Trenton, New Jersey; R. Avraham Nachman Schwartz, Baltimore; R. Chaim Shraga Brodsky (author of Divrei Cheshev, rabbi in Newark, New Jersey); R. Elimelech Kovalenko, Brooklyn; R. Naftali Hertz HaKohen Zeichik, Des Moines, Iowa; R. Ephraim Zalman Halpern, Rabbi of Denver (later founder of Taharat HaMishpachah in Eretz Israel); R. Avraham Yitzchak Shuchatowitz, the Bronx; R. Aharon Shuchatowitz, New Haven; and many other rabbis. The collection also includes internal documents of the Vaad HaKlali in Jerusalem, and letters by heads of other institutions in Eretz Israel addressed to the Vaad HaKlali. Approx. 230 letters and paper items, including over 180 signed letters and tens of printed leaves. Varying size and condition. The collection has not been thoroughly examined, and is being sold as is.
