Three Notarial Documents – Lopes Suasso Jewish Noble Family – The Hague and Amsterdam, 1719-1734 – Business and Division of Estate of Don Francisco Lopes Suasso, Second Baron d'Avernas - Three notarial documents relating to division of the estate, property and business of the Lopes Suasso family. The Hague and Amsterdam, [1719-1734]. Dutch; cursive script. The Lopes Suasso family was one of the most distinguished and wealthy families in the Spanish-Portuguese community in Holland. The family possessed titles of nobility and were known for their close ties to the Dutch royal family. The father of the family at the time, the banker Don Francisco (Avraham Yisrael) Lopes Suasso, second Baron d'Avernas (1657-1710), was famed as the sponsor of William III of Orange's 1688 invasion of England in the Glorious Revolution. Family tradition has it that he provided the king with a huge loan of two million guilders, saying, ”If you are fortunate, I know you will return them to me; if you are unfortunate, I agree to having lost them”. The collection includes three documents revealing the management of the estate and financial wealth of the family in its next generation (copies of official notarized documents certified in The Hague in July 1734): 1. Five-page document (copy of notarial document dated 24 March 1719), arranging the inheritances of Manuel and Pedro (Moshe) Lopes Suasso in their father's estate, Don Francisco Lopes Suesso, Baron d'Avernas, towards their reaching the age of majority. The document details a division of hundreds of securities and bonds from the estate, naming family members and guardians, including his widow Donna Leonor (Rachel) Suasso d'Acosta and the son Antonio (Yitzchak Yisrael) Lopes Suasso. 2. Two-page document (copy of notarial document, Amsterdam, 8 June 1719), documenting a sale and transfer of lottery tickets and government bonds to the estate of Don Francisco Lopes Suasso, Baron d'Avernas. 3. Three-page document (copy of notarial document, The Hague, 10 June 1734), documenting sale and transfer of lottery tickets and government bonds by Manuel Lopes Suasso and his wife Judith Teixeira d'Andrade. At the top of all three documents are official relief stamps of the Holland region. At the end are signatures of a Hague notary, summer 1734. [6] double leaves (10 handwritten pages). 33 cm.
