Esther Scroll with Original Wooden Handle – The Netherlands, 18th/19th Century - Esther scroll. [The Netherlands, 18th or early 19th century]. Ink on parchment; silk; turned wood. Esther scroll written on especially fine Sephardic script on 3 parchment membranes sewn together, 13 text columns, 25 lines per column. Beginning of first membrane sewn to blue silk sheet. Rolled on original wooden handle. Height of parchment: 21 cm. Overall good condition. Stains, creases and slight wear to first membrane. Corrections to text in some places. Height of handle: 38 cm. Good condition. Ornament (knob?) lacking from edge of handle. Fabric heavily worn and partially torn. Remains of fastener (lacking).
