Gold-tone decals on the front of the case and the mechanism identify the item as ”The COLUMBIA GRAPHOPHONE, ” detail patent dates from ”MAY 4 1886” to ”JULY 27 1897,” state ”MADE IN U.S.A., ” and list ”COLUMBIA PHONOGRAPH CO. NEW YORK & LONDON.” A second decal on the side of the case advertises that ”The GRAPHOPHONE and COLUMBIA RECORDS WERE AWARDED THE GRAND PRIZE AT THE PARIS EXPOSITION 1900, ST LOUIS EXPOSITION 1904, AND MILAN EXPOSITION 1906.” An accompanying aged paper insert, marked ”TYPE BF, ” states that ”This Graphophone is manufactured by the American Graphophone Company under certain patents, and licensed and sold through its sole sales agent, the Columbia Phonograph Company, (General, ) The phonograph retains its original crank.
