African Ethnographic Carved Wooden Mask - A carved wooden mask, likely of African ethnographic origin, depicting a stylized human face with prominent features including slanted eyes, a broad nose, and an open mouth revealing carved teeth. The mask features a dark brown or black-painted coiffure or headdress with scalloped edges. The face is primarily painted in an off-white or light brown pigment with dark brown or black detailing outlining features and creating decorative patterns of lines and raised dots. A reddish-brown underlayer or accent color is visible in various areas. The reverse of the mask shows rough carving marks, exposed wood grain, and signs of age and use. A length of braided black cord is tied through multiple holes on the back, along with remnants of a lighter fabric, serving as a suspension or wearing mechanism, with a single loop of twine for hanging at the top. Width: 7.5 inches
