A Pair of Early 20th Century Austrian Cast Metal Alpine Children Bookends - A pair of early 20th century figural bookends, each featuring a hand-painted cast metal figure, likely spelter, depicting a child in traditional Alpine attire. The boy is dressed in lederhosen and the girl in a dirndl, both standing beside a tree trunk. The figures are mounted on variegated polished stone bases, possibly onyx or marble. The underside of one base is marked ”AUSTRIA”. Height: 6 inches The items exhibit notable wear consistent with age and use. There is extensive paint loss and chipping across both figures. Visible cracks are present in the metal tree trunks. The stone bases show minor edge chips and discoloration.
