A Pair of Mid-20th Century Original Ink and Wash Cartoon Illustrations, Signed Stevenson and B. Tobey - A pair of original ink and wash cartoon illustrations on paper, presented in frames. The larger illustration, signed ”STEVENSON” in the lower right, depicts an archaeological scene with two figures examining a stone block inscribed ”GETROGOTHS, ” with a caption reading, ”That's what it says, all right---'Getrogoths Go Home!'.” This piece is housed in a black wooden frame. The smaller illustration, signed ”B. TOBEY.” in the lower right, features two bald, spectacled men intently playing chess, presented in a silver-toned metal frame. Both works are matted and displayed behind glass, consistent with a mid-20th century style. Larger frame: 22 inches (55.9 cm) high x 19 inches (48.3 cm) wide Smaller frame: 17 inches (43.2 cm) high x 14 inches (35.6 cm) wide illustrations exhibit signs of age including paper discoloration yellowing, and foxing or staining. Both works are framed and matted, behind glass. Frames show minor wear consistent with age.
