Antique French Burled Wood Graphoscope - This antique French graphoscope is constructed from a rectangular wooden box featuring a burled wood veneer. The hinged lid contains a large central circular magnifying lens set within a black-painted frame. The interior is finished in a lighter wood and contains an adjustable internal frame with brass hardware, including hinges and a side latch. The underside of the base features a handwritten inscription in black ink that reads M. ASTLEY. This optical device was designed for the magnification and viewing of photographs or prints. Width: 8.5 inches The item exhibits visible age-related wear consistent with use. There are surface scratches, minor indentations, and small losses to the burled wood veneer.
