US Military Joint Forces WWII United States Forces In England Sterling Silver Sweetheart Pin - This is a British-made World War II era sweetheart brooch intended for United States Forces personnel stationed in the United Kingdom between 1942 and 1945. The piece is crafted from sterling silver with a gold-toned vermeil finish and features a suspension design common to the European Theater of Operations. The top element is a dark blue enameled bow which holds a circular medallion. The obverse of the medallion depicts the Great Seal of the United States embossed on a textured field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring with the gold-lettered inscription UNITED STATES FORCES IN ENGLAND. The reverse is personalized with a contemporary hand-engraved cursive inscription reading Love Marion. These items were produced locally in England to meet the high demand from American GIs and paratroopers preparing for the D-Day invasion. While many examples are unmarked, the design is a recognized British manufacturing pattern for the American market.
