The object is constructed with a central tapering rectangular column composed of four polished bone panels set within a silver-toned metal framework. The metalwork is decorated with multiple tiers of scrolled wire filigree, twisted wire borders, and raised granulation-style beading. The vessel stands on a flared circular base ornamented with four rows of filigree. The removable cap features a tiered design topped with a cage-style finial inset with a single red coral-colored cabochon bead. A matching applicator is housed in a side-mounted metal sheath; the applicator consists of a decorative metal handle with twisted wire accents, a blue turquoise-colored cabochon finial, and a long, tapered bone tip. This item is attributed to North Africa, specifically Morocco, and is characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century craftsmanship. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the metal surfaces.
