Tanzanian Hand Tooled Leather and Hardwood Folding Tripod Safari Stool by Shah Industries Ltd - This vintage folding tripod stool was produced by Shah Industries Ltd in Moshi, Tanzania. The piece features a triangular seat constructed from thick, tan-colored leather with a hand-tooled leopard head motif at the center and a decorative braided leather border. The underside of the seat is reinforced with stitched leather patches and includes integrated pockets at each corner to receive the leg tops. The base consists of three turned hardwood legs with a dark polished finish, joined at a central pivot point by a metal bolt and nut, allowing the unit to fold flat for transport. The underside of the leather seat bears an impressed maker mark featuring the word CHUI within an oval above a circular seal with a big cat head, followed by text reading HAND MADE BY TANZANIAN CRAFTSMEN OF SHAH INDUSTRIES LTD. P.O. BOX 86 MOSHI TANZANIA. Height: 16 inches Width: 15 inches Folded length: 23 inches. The stool is in ver good vintage condition. The leather seat shows scattered water spots and surface staining, most notably near one corner. The wooden legs exhibit minor scuffs and surface wear consistent with age and typical use. The mechanical folding action is fully functional and the structural integrity is sound.
