Melanesian Style Carved Wooden Anthropomorphic Female Figure with Mixed Media - This hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure is attributed to the Melanesian region, displaying stylistic characteristics common to Papua New Guinea. The figure is depicted as a female in a seated, splayed-leg position with arms outstretched. The object is carved from wood and finished with a dark matte patina. The face is decorated with hand-painted black and white swirling motifs and features inlaid cowrie shells for eyes. Natural raffia bundles are attached as ear ornaments and a waist skirt, while a thin fiber necklace is tied around the neck. The hands and feet are rendered in a simplified block-style carving.
