Six Gallon Salt Glazed Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Capacity Mark - This six gallon stoneware crock features a cylindrical body with a thick molded rim and two applied lug handles at the shoulders. The exterior is finished with a traditional salt glaze, resulting in a buff colored, slightly textured surface. A cobalt blue numeral 6 is applied to the front, indicating the vessel capacity. The interior is lined with a dark brown Albany type slip glaze. The unglazed base displays a rough texture and concentric wire marks from the potting process. The form and marking style are characteristic of late 19th century American utilitarian stoneware, possibly of Midwestern origin.
