F.G. Grust Signed Oil on Canvas Dutch Interior Scene - This oil on canvas painting depicts a Dutch domestic genre scene, signed F.G. Grust in the lower right corner. The composition features a mother in traditional attire, including a white cap and blue apron, seated in a wooden chair and holding a toddler on her lap. The work is housed in an ornate gilded gesso-over-wood swept frame characterized by scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and shell-patterned corner flourishes. 32 x 36 inches (framed). The canvas exhibits a fine web of stable craquelure across the entire paint surface. There is a general accumulation of surface dirt and dust. The frame shows age-related wear, including several structural cracks at the mitered joints and across the gesso ornamentation. There are minor losses to the gilded finish, particularly at the corners and protruding edges. The paper backing on the reverse is torn in several locations and has been reinforced with various types of adhesive tape.
