Bidspirit auction | Polished Cross-Section of Arizona Petrified
Polished Cross-Section of Arizona Petrified Wood - This specimen consists of a professionally polished cross-section of agatized petrified wood, attributed to the species Araucarioxylon arizonicum from the Triassic-aged Chinle Formation of Arizona. The polished face displays a vibrant polychrome color palette, with prominent hues of rust-red, ochre-yellow, and orange, resulting from iron oxide mineral inclusions during the silicification process. Measures: 5 x 3.5 inches. The primary face features a high-gloss polish with no significant surface abrasions. Consistent with natural petrified wood, there are visible internal hairline fractures and checking that occurred during fossilization; these are stable and do not compromise the structural integrity of the piece. No evidence of repair or artificial stabilization is visible.
