Richard Klein Bronze Mortar and Pestle - This cast bronze mortar and matching pestle were produced by Richard Klein, bearing the R.A.K. 1 mark on the base. The body features high-relief decoration including a lower register of stylized foliage and an upper band inscribed with the date 1571 and the name HERREN CRECKES. The mortar is flanked by two conical ear handles and is accompanied by a double-ended pestle with a central knop and bulbous grinding end. Mortar height: 3.75 inches Pestle length: 7 inches. The set exhibits a dark, aged patina with areas of surface oxidation and verdigris throughout. The interior of the bowl shows pitting and darkened residue consistent with use, while the relief lettering and scrollwork remain well-defined.
