Bidspirit auction | Schering William Procter Jr. Bookends

Schering William Procter Jr. Bookends - A pair of Schering cast metal bookends designed as mortar and pestles, issued as part of a pharmaceutical commemorative series. The front faces feature a high-relief depiction of William Procter Jr. seated at a desk with the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in the background. Each piece is inscribed with William Procter Jr. 1817-1874 and the Latin phrase Secundum artem on the base. The cast decorative fronts are secured to L-shaped steel support plates by a single rivet. Height: 4 inches. Both bookends exhibit moderate wear to the dark bronze-toned patina, particularly on the relief surfaces. Scattered surface scratches and minor oxidation are present on the cast elements. The rear steel support plates show areas of surface rust and discoloration, though the rivets remain secure.
