A noted Jewish philosopher, and a leader in the Mizrachi movement R. Moshe Avigdor Amiel (1882-1945) studied under two of Lithuania’s most brilliant rabbinic scholars: Rabbi Chaim Soloveichik and Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. Appointed chief rabbi of wealthy Antwerp, Amiel later followed his religious-Zionist beliefs and settled in Eretz Israel where he was appointed Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv.
