Born in Fez, the Author (known as ”Rabbi al-Kabbir” (the Great Teacher), 1655–1733), was appointed head of the Moroccan Dayanim. In collaboration with his disciple, R. Ya’akov Abensur, he published the Takanot of the Spanish exiles in Fez and drew up new regulations which continued to serve as the basis of Judeo-Moroccan jurisprudence.
