(INDIA). A.B. Salem. Eternal Light, or Jew Town Synagogue. English text. Frontispiece portrait of the author. Marginalia. pp. 79. Brittle. Printed wrappers, upper cover detached. 12mo. Ernakulam, S.D. Printing Works, 1929. Written with a delightful Indian-style turn of phrase on the architecture and customs of Cochin’s Paradesi Synagogue. The author obliquely references practices of discrimination faced by Brown Jews. The author, Abraham ben Barak Salem (1882-1967) was a Cochini his entire life. He was active in assisting his fellow Jews to migrate from India to Israel, however he chose to remain in Kerala and is buried in the Pardesi Cemetery, Jew Town, Kochi.
