Composed for recitation by the Shomrim LaBoker Society of the Usiglio Family private synagogue in Modena where the author (b. 1590) served as Hazzan.   The Aschkenazic societies of Shomerim LaBoker ('Watchers of the Dawn') would chant these Kabbalistic-infused hymns in the pre-dawn of Monday and Thursday mornings.   See M.J.
