Frankfurt a/Main, Johannes Jost, 1699. R. Yair Chaim Bacharach (1638-1702), was an outstanding German rabbinic scholar with an extensive knowledge that included the sciences and Kabbalah. He is known for his systematic approach to Talmudic literature and Halacha based upon his exhaustive knowledge in all branches of Jewish scholarship. The issues raised by these responsa reflect the difficult social conditions of the Jews following upheavals brought about by the shocking Chmielnicki massacres (Gezeirath Ta’ch veTa’t).
