The author composed a poem (see ff. 52b-54a in Shareshoth Gavluth) in honor of ”the man of God, charming and pleasant, Isaac de Castro Tartas … whose holy soul went up in purity, ” burned at the stake during an Auto-da-fé in 1644, after he had been extradited to Lisbon from Bahia, Brazil.
