Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, the author (c. 1515-80) was a prolific rabbinic scholar whose many works demonstrate extensive knowledge of science, philosophy, history, and rhetoric. His Halachic responsa appear in the collections of contemporaries such as R. Shmuel de Medina (MaHaRaSHDa’M), and R. Ya'akov di Boton. Alongside Hebrew commentaries to the Five Megilloth (Yedei Moshe, 1582), the Chumash and Siddur (Tefillah LeMoshe, 1563), R. Moshe Almosnino also published in Judeo-Spanish.
