(ISRAEL, LAND OF). SHAPIRO, NATHAN OF JERUSALEM. Tuv Ha’Aretz [on the virtues of the Land of Israel]. FIRST EDITION. With versified preface by R. Moshe Zacuto. ff. (4), 76. Trimmed, stained in places. Recent boards. Sm. 8vo. Vinograd, Venice 1309. Venice, Vendramin, 1655. “This Kabbalistic work on the holiness of the Land of Israel includes praise of Eretz Israel, Seguloth, Tikun Chatzoth, Tikun for the nights of Shavu’oth and Hoshana Rabbah. These Tikkunim are according to the rite of the Kabbalists in Eretz Israel. There is also a Kinah (dirge) on the exile of the Shechinah.” (M.J. Heller). In his introduction, the author writes that his work, based on the writings of the Ar’i, the Rema’k, R. Hayyim Vital and R. Avraham Azulai, concerns the holiness of the Land, the need to sustain its inhabitants, and rebuking those whose criticism results in reduced support. He concludes that those who hearken, “shall eat the good of the land (Tuv Ha’Aretz)” (Isaiah 1:19). See https://www.chabad.org/kabbalah/article_cdo/aid/380411/jewish/Tuv-HaAretz-About-the-Author.htm
