New York, Henry Frank, 1854-56. Remarkably rare complete set of the first Aschkenazi Machzorim printed in America. Based upon the celebrated Wolf Heidenheim edition, these prayer-books for the Days of Awe were issued by the Jewish printing establishment of Henry (Chaim) Frank of New York. This enabled the newly rising community of Aschkenazi American Jews to conduct services according to their own custom, as opposed to that of the Sephardic rite. No complete set has ever before appeared for auction sale.
