Enacted to repeal specific archaic statutes and ordinances related to religious conformity and penalties. The legislation marked a step toward religious freedom by removing disabilities previously imposed on subjects for their religious practices.  It granted Jews the same rights as Roman Catholics and Protestant dissenters as far as education, property and worship. It also repealed laws requiring mandatory attendance at Church of England services and eased restrictions on non-conformist religious practices.
