The title page reads ”For the use of the Israelites that are dwelling in Argentina.” Argentina's Jewish community dates to 1580, but only took root in the mid-nineteenth century when Jews were granted religious freedom. The population of Argentina (primarily Ashkenazic) increased largely after the establishment in 1891 of the Jewish Colonization Association which acquired land in Argentina for Jewish immigrants to farm. The Jewish Colonization Association (JCA or ICA), founded by Baron Maurice de Hirsch, was a remarkable philanthropic enterprise, created to facilitate the mass emigration of Eastern European Jews, primarily from Russia, to agricultural settlements in Argentina. The project aimed to create a new life for Jewish refugees, establishing agricultural colonies such as Moisés Ville and Mauricio.
