A SILVER ROMAN FIGURE OF THE GODDESS MINERVA, CIRCA 1ST - 2ND CENTURY A.D. - A cast silver figure of the goddess Minerva, dating to approximately the 1st to 2nd Century A.D. The goddess is portrayed in a traditional standing posture, wearing a high-crested helmet and a long, vertically pleated garment. Centred on the breast is the aegis, bearing a detailed gorgoneion. In her extended right hand, she holds a patera, and in her raised left hand, she carries a cornucopia, an attribute indicating a syncretic representation of Minerva-Fortuna. The figure stands on an integral, stepped rectangular pedestal base. The level of detail in the drapery and facial features is characteristic of high-quality small-scale Roman votive sculpture.
