AN UNMOUNTED OVAL CARVED OPALESCENT CAMEO IN THE, 1ST - 2ND CENTURY A.D. - An unmounted oval-shaped carved cameo, possibly of opal or opalescent glass, depicting a bearded male profile in the classical style, resembling a Roman emperor or philosopher. The figure is shown facing left with detailed carving to the hair and beard, wearing a laurel wreath. The relief is carved in a milky-white layer exhibiting a play of colour, set upon a translucent honey-coloured ground.  L: 2.3cm
