MOUSTAFA FARROUKH (LEBANESE, 1901-1957), THE COURT OF THE LIONS, ALHAMBRA, GRANADA, WATERCOLOUR ON PAPER - This watercolour on textured paper is a work by the prominent Lebanese artist Moustafa Farroukh (1901-1957), depicting the Court of the Lions (Patio de los Leones) within the Alhambra palace complex in Granada, Spain. The composition captures the central fountain, characterized by its basin supported by twelve lion figures, set against the intricately decorated Moorish arches and the pavilion dome of the courtyard. Farroukh employs an impressionistic style with a focus on light and atmosphere, utilizing a warm palette of ochre, terracotta, and soft blues to render the architectural details and the reflection of the fountain on the tiled floor. The artwork is signed in the lower right corner in Arabic script above the Latinised signature M. Farroukh. The painting is presented in a textured cream-coloured mat with a gold-tone inner filet, housed in a substantial ornate gilt frame.
