A PAIR OF GOLD GEM SET BYZANTINE EARRINGS, CIRCA 6TH CENTURY A.D. - Each earring features a shepherd's hook wire attached to a tapered gold mount set with a pear-shaped garnet cabochon and decorated with fine wirework. The main body of each earring is an elongated shield-shaped pendant, centrally set with a pear-shaped garnet cabochon within a granulated border and accented by small raised gold bosses. Four lengths of fine-link gold chain are suspended from the main pendant body, two from the sides and two from the lower apex, each terminating in a round garnet bead. Length: 8cm each  Total weight: 17g
