AN ISLAMIC CARNELIAN AGATE INTAGLIO SEAL STONE WITH CALLIGRAPHIC INSCRIPTION - An oval-shaped intaglio seal stone carved from carnelian, a translucent reddish-orange variety of chalcedony showing natural internal banding. The flat face is deeply incised with two lines of calligraphy in a flowing cursive Arabic or Persian script. The lower register includes the word Allah. The composition is embellished with small, six-petalled floral or star motifs acting as decorative fillers above, below, and between the lines of script. The reverse is shaped with a domed cabochon profile. L: 2.3cm
