AN EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AMULET OF THE GOD BES, LATE PERIOD, CIRCA 664-332 B.C. - An Egyptian faience amulet depicting the deity Bes, dating to the Late Period (c. 664-332 BC) or Ptolemaic Period. The figure is rendered in his characteristic dwarf-like form with lion-like facial features, a thick beard, and a mane. In this militant representation, Bes is shown brandishing a curved sword, similar to a khopesh, in his raised right hand, while holding a decorated circular shield in his left. He wears a tall, flat-topped plumed headdress. The amulet is finished in a vibrant turquoise-green glaze, a hallmark of Egyptian faience production. The reverse of the figurine includes a vertical back pillar for structural support and a transverse suspension loop located at the nape of the neck, indicating its function as a protective talisman.
