AN EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AMULET OF THE DEITY BES, LATE PERIOD, CIRCA 664-332 B.C. - An Egyptian faience amulet depicting the protective deity Bes. The figure is presented frontally as a squat, bandy-legged dwarf standing upon a small rectangular plinth. His hands are placed on his thighs, and his face displays leonine features with prominent eyes and a large, striated beard. Atop his head sits a high feathered crown composed of five plumes. The body features a rounded abdomen with a distinct navel. The reverse is modelled in the round and includes a long lion tail extending down from the lower back. A horizontal suspension hole is pierced through the upper shoulders for threading. The piece is crafted from Egyptian faience, coated in a vibrant turquoise-blue glaze. The style and material are characteristic of the Egyptian Late Period through to the Ptolemaic Period. L: 6.2cm
