AN ARABIC CHRISTIAN BOOK, BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER, SOCIETY FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE, C. 1850 - An Arabic language translation of the Book of Common Prayer, containing standard Anglican liturgical services including the Order of Morning and Evening Prayer, the Athanasian Creed, and the Psalter (Psalms of David). The volume is bound in nineteenth-century half red morocco over red grained cloth boards. The spine is divided into six compartments by five raised bands, featuring gilt-ruled lines and two inset blue morocco labels. The primary label is lettered in gilt: 'ترتيب صلاة الصبح' (Order of Morning Prayer). The lower spine compartments are finished with small gilt floral tools and decorative bands. The internal text is printed in Arabic, and the introduction (al-muqaddima) explicitly references the 'wisdom of the Church of England' (حكمة كنيسة انكلترا). The Psalter is divided into daily sections (e.g., 'اليوم ٣٠' for Day 30). An index at the rear lists twenty-eight liturgical sections, including various church rites and services. 20 x13cm
