***Auction Highlight*** 1856 Snow-9 Flying Eagle Cent 1c Graded pr65+ BY SEGS. Technically considered a pattern, the 1856 Flying Eagle cents had a dual role of demonstrating the appearance of the new small cents to Congress, and of providing Mint workmen the opportunity to produce coinage from the copper-nickel alloy. Although much of the composition was copper, the presence of just 12% nickel presented difficulties for the Mint's employees, such as James Noble, who worked at the Mint per the 1856 Philadelphia directory. The 1856 Flying Eagle cent ranks as one of the most numismatically significant issues. Once collectors realized its rarity, there was a clamor to obtain examples, and many joined the hobby specifically to acquire the low-mintage date A Key Date's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
