1961 Soviet Russia 5 Rubles Banknote P# 224a Grades Choice AU. The "Sixth Soviet Ruble" was issued first in 1961, and the designs for both the non-commemorative coins and paper currency of the Soviet Union almost remained identical from 1961 nearly until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Briefly before the Soviet Union fell, there was the monetary reform of 1991 and the release of the Seventh Soviet Ruble, with designs that were fairly similar to the 1961 Rubles. Interestingly, the 500 Ruble note only existed for 2 days before the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the 1000 Soviet Ruble note only came into existence 3 months after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Some Soviet banknotes were printed and remained in use in various ex-Soviet states in 1992-1993, still utilizing the 1991 Soviet designs.
