Postcard Featuring the Ship on which the Rayatz Made His Way to Eretz Yisrael - An interesting and rare item documenting the ship on which the Rebbe the Rayatz made his way to the Holy Land in 1929. This is an official souvenir postcard of the shipping company that operated the SS Viennna on which the Rebbe the Rayatz sailed in 1929 on his way to Eretz Yisrael. Confirmation by his eldest daughter the Rebbetzin Chanah Gourarie. Background In the summer of 1929, the Rebbe the Rayatz embarked on a journey from his home in Riga, Latvia, traveling through several European countries on his way to Italy. The voyage began on the 17th of Tammuz, 1929, when the Rebbe boarded the SS Vienna at the port of Trieste, Italy. After several days of sailing across the Mediterranean, the ship arrived at the Port of Jaffa on the 21st of Tammuz, 19299. The purpose of the visit was to pray at the holy sites (the Western Wall, Hebron, and the graves of Tzaddikim in the Galilee) and to meet with the Chassidic communities in the Holy Land. The journey sparked immense excitement throughout the Jewish Yishuv in Eretz Yisrael at the time. The Rebbe stayed in the Land for approximately two weeks, and from there, he continued his journey to the United States. Placed in a contemporary tin box. The confirmation refers to the postcard only.
