The Yemenis arrived in Jerusalem lacking in everything material but with a burning faith in G-d and redemption. The Jewish community in Jerusalem, both the Sephardim and the Ashkenazim, who also suffered from poverty and many difficulties, did not want to share with them what they had, and only Rabbi Yisrael Dov Fromkin's bravery put them in the spotlight. First and foremost, he took care of them, with the help of donations from abroad and with the help of Baroness Hirsch, for decent housing. He dedicated himself to establishing a neighborhood in Kfar Shiloh. There lived 160 Jewish families, most of them Yemeni, for decades until the riots and pogroms that the Arabs perpetrated on them and their property in 1920 and 1929, when the British disowned them. Their descendants returned ”Atara Le-Yoshana” with the help of their property documents and 65 Jewish families returned for a generation there, and many more families intend to build their homes there, while houses are being renovated there in the Yemeni village. Even some of the synagogues were put back in their place, and even the shofar where they were blown, and kept by the descendants, is the shofar that is blown today.
