Profusely illustrated with more than 350 engravings from designs by eminent artists including Landseer, Le Keux, and Sands, with a hand-colored fold-out map as frontispiece The original green cloth binding is gilt-blocked with a decorative design featuring camels, palm trees, and a star — a fine example of Victorian decorative bookbinding. The copy was presented as a school prize at Elmfield College, York, a Primitive Methodist boarding school founded in 1864 and active until 1932. The prize plate, completed in manuscript and signed, reads: ”Presented to Master Wm. Easter for Scripture, Class I”, signed by Governor Robert Smith and Headmaster Thomas Gough B.Sc., dated Midsummer 1880.
