Calligraphy Album,by Zhao Shu Ru - Zhao Shuru (1874–1945), originally named Runxiang, with the courtesy names Xianchen and Shuru, later changed to Shouhui, and self-styled as Ernuluo Laoren in his later years, was from Yin County (modern-day Ningbo, Zhejiang). He was a prominent scholar and seal carver during the Republic of China era, excelling in poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal engraving. In painting, he was particularly skilled in horse painting, inheriting the techniques of Song dynasty artist Li Gonglin and Yuan dynasty artist Zhao Mengfu, while also incorporating Western painting methods from Lang Shining. In calligraphy, he excelled in cursive, seal, and clerical scripts, with his regular script and running script influenced by Zhao Mengfu and Zhao Zhiqian, while his seal script was inspired by Li Si and Li Yangbing, and his clerical script drew from the styles of the Han dynasties. In seal carving, he combined the strengths of both Zhejiang and Anhui schools, greatly influenced by the Qin and Han dynasties. His research and development of Song and Yuan-style round red seals made significant contributions. He was one of the ”Five Great Schools of Seal Carving in the Republic of China” and carved approximately one thousand seals throughout his life.
